philosophy

In year 3 of junior school, Mr Needs our music teacher told us about some chap who'd attempted to prove that God exists using  mathematics. Inspired by this, and by recent work in arithmetic on arithmetical and geometric series, I spent hours up in our attic, working out series of numbers and hoping to reach a point where I found a series that approached so close to infinity that the answer would come out as "God". I never managed this, but I did become very good at mental arithmetic with all that practice, and won a special prize. Maybe that was God working in a mysterious way to make His presence known, who knows. Later at Wanstead High School, I used to bunk off class and go to the local library to read philosophy, or wander down the Mile End Road poking about in second hand bookshops. I had the common sense to return Being and Nothingness after reading the first paragraph, but I made it through Discourse on the Method and Meditations, among others. This page will tell you more about my work in philosophy, once I've had a chance to finish it.
